Reflections from ITC Vegas 2025: A Wonderland of Possibilities in Insurance Innovation

Last week at ITC Vegas 2025, I had the privilege of joining thousands of insurance leaders, technologists, and innovators in what felt like a true Wonderland of Possibilities. The energy was electric, the ideas were bold, and the conversations were deeply inspiring. As someone who’s spent years helping insurers modernize their tech stacks, this year’s event reaffirmed that we’re entering a new era, defined by modularity, intelligence, and human + AI collaboration.

Here are my top five takeaways from the conference.

1. Technology as a catalyst for cultural transformation

In a standout keynote, Tim Sweeney, Chairman & CEO of Liberty Mutual Insurance, spoke alongside Tanguy Catlin of McKinsey about how technology is driving cultural change within insurance organizations. Their insights were powerful:

  • Focus on demand, not supply – solve real customer problems instead of just pushing products.

  • AI is overestimated in the short term, but underestimated in the long run.

  • Stay invested – keep building solutions that create lasting value.

  • Be a true partner – co-create with your clients, don’t just sell to them.

This keynote emphasized that innovation is not just about tools, it’s about leadership, mindset, and building a culture of progress. The future impact of AI will be far bigger than we imagine today. The key is to build with purpose.

2. GenAI and composable engineering are reshaping the insurance value chain

Across all 11 stages at ITC, the message was clear: Generative AI and composable engineering are no longer experimental, they are foundational. From claims to customer service, insurers are embedding modular AI services into their workflows. At Encora, we’re helping clients build explainable, pluggable systems that adapt to evolving market demands. This is the future of insurance architecture: flexible, intelligent, and deeply integrated.

3. Human + AI collaboration is the new expertise model

One of the most exciting shifts is the redefinition of the underwriter’s role. Rather than being replaced by AI, underwriters are becoming strategic orchestrators leveraging intelligent systems to make faster, more accurate decisions. This human + AI synergy is elevating expertise across the board, and it’s a model we’re actively enabling through our AI-first engineering approach.

4. Multi-agent AI systems are rewiring underwriting

Encora’s session, “MAS-terplan: How Multi-Agent AI Systems Are Rewiring Underwriting”, led by Adrian Blidarus, Global Head of Insurance, showcased how underwriting is being transformed into a composable service. These multi-agent systems (MAS) automate routine tasks and enable insurers to deliver underwriting as a scalable, software-driven capability. This isn’t just innovation, it is a blueprint for Underwriting-as-Software, and it’s already reshaping how carriers think about operational efficiency and productization.

5. Wonderland of possibilities: technology as the rabbit hole

This year’s theme, “Wonderland of Possibilities,” was more than a tagline: it was a metaphor for the journey we’re all on. Much like Alice’s descent into the rabbit hole in Lewis Carroll’s classic, technology is leading us into new realms of discovery. At Encora, we believe that curiosity, creativity, and bold exploration are essential to unlocking the next generation of insurance solutions. ITC Vegas reminded us that the future isn’t just coming. It’s already here, and it’s full of wonder.

Conclusions

ITC Vegas 2025 was a powerful reminder that the insurance industry is not just evolving: it’s being reimagined. From underwriting innovation to cultural transformation, the event showcased a future where technology, leadership, and creativity converge. At Encora, we’re proud to be part of this journey, helping our clients navigate the rabbit hole and emerge with smarter, faster, and more human-centric solutions.
