Multiexperience:  An Enabled Seamless Experience Across Devices

Organizations are leveraging UI/UX to innovate, broaden the customer journey, and engage with customers across digital touchpoints, including IoT devices.

As the pandemic continues to impact work models, markets, and our day-to-day lives, consumers’ needs continue to rapidly evolve. There is a vital and urgent push to transform workflows and the user experience alongside these shifting consumer expectations.

Encora’s Technology Trends present the top 10 trends in 2022 from a software engineering perspective—trends that hold the promise for organizations to respond to emerging disruptions and succeed in a rapidly changing world.

We spoke with the Head of UX at Encora Mexico, Sandra Vazquez, about 1 of the 10 trends selected: Multiexperience.

What is Multiexperience?

Multiexperience is about creating a seamless user experience, with one application, across a variety of digital touchpoints: websites, mobile apps, chatbots, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), and wearables.

Why is this trend on the rise?

Technology is evolving and with it, the number of devices we own and use. The fact that users and consumers have multiple devices has raised the necessity for our devices to communicate with each other and create an intuitive, integrated experience.

Is Multiexperience the future of app development?

Yes, it's a natural evolution. A mobile or web app is not enough anymore. Users expect to interact with devices through touch, voice, and gestures.

Where do you see this trend in the next few years?

Multiexperience will open new ways for businesses to connect with their customers. Instead of people adapting to technology, technology will adapt to people to meet them wherever they are in the customer journey. We will be using more virtual reality, smartwatches, and voice devices.

What has been the biggest factor in the adoption of Multiexperience?

The fact that many different devices are more accessible and how we use those devices is also changing. Now, it's easier for us to get an Oculus or any other type of VR device, and companies are investing in making these kinds of devices available to all of us.

Before, we would hear about IoT (Internet of Things) devices but we didn't own one. Six years ago, Alexa wasn’t widely used but now, for many of us, it's part of our day-to-day lives.

How will Multiexperience impact software engineering?

Multiexperience offers a different way of seeing things. When you have a mobile app and a web app, you might see them as different. But when you move into the Multiexperience domain, you need to see them as one with the same touchpoints.

How will Extended Reality (XR) Technologies drive adoption of Multiexperience?

Immersive technology will change how we interact in the physical and digital world by making the line between these two worlds thinner and blurrier. XR will help us discover new and innovative ways to interact with physical spaces.

How will Human-machine Interfaces impact Multiexperience?

br>Growth in IoT will have a great impact on human-machine interaction. In the last few years, we have seen new methods of communication emerge. IoT connected to HMI is the natural progression.

Will Spatial Computing influence the future of Multiexperience?

Spatial computing will have a big impact on the interaction between people, machines, and the environment. As autonomous vehicles grow in popularity, so will other spatial computing technologies. We’ll see a deep digitalization of the future of work and our social interactions as well.

Where do software companies stand on Multiexperience?

Most companies are already following a multi-channel approach. They have their websites, mobile apps, and other channels. Now, they are making the transition to connect them in a Multiexperience approach.

As I mentioned, the way users interact with different channels or different devices is diverse. Now that users have an IoT device, it should fit into the customer journey. Software companies are understanding this and making the necessary changes.

How can Encora help software companies innovate in Multiexperience?

At Encora, we're recognized for innovating and helping our clients prepare for the future. We see Multiexperience as a trend that will shape how software is built in the coming years and we're ready for it.

The UX teams at Encora help our clients gain a new understanding of their customer journey. We help them identify the touchpoints where their customers interact with their applications and the differences their customers encounter across devices.

When people are on a computer, they see things differently and act differently from when they are on a smartphone or a smartwatch. We help the client understand and adapt to that.

A special thanks to Sandra Vazquez, Encora Mexico's Head of UX and accomplished Innovation Leader.
