Encora contains a daily dose of 1,000 mg of calcium (and 800 IU of vitamin D) to help protect against osteoporosis and bone fractures. (1,2) When you consider that osteoporosis is responsible for more than 1.5 million fractures annually, it’s |

good to be protected. (15) And while osteoporosis is often thought of as an older persons’ disease, it can strike at any age. (15) In fact, women start to lose bone mass at age 30. (1) American women 40 years of age and older only get an average of 702 mg per day of calcium from their diet, only about half of what the National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends. (13,29)
Encora has higher amounts of calcium and vitamin D in its evening doses because these vitamins and minerals are more readily absorbed and deposited into bone at night. Simply taking 1,000 mg of calcium every day and ignoring how and when it is best absorbed could result in not getting the recommended daily allowance, not to mention wasting money on a supplement that may be naturally “washed out” of your system. (1,18-21)
Finally, a high dietary calcium intake has been found to benefit mood. (42) 73% of women reported overall improvement in PMS symptoms after taking 1,000 mg daily of a calcium supplement for 3 months (vs those taking placebo) (22)—that’s the same dose found in Encora.
